New York Fashion Week: Proenza Schouler’s street art vibe

The urban tribal vibe we saw at Proenza Schouler for spring evolved into an street art vibe for fall, thanks to a new collaboration between designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Fernandez and J Brand jeans.
These are not designer jeans for the wallflower, but rather exaggerated high-waist styles in a graphic black- and-white splattery graffiti print, which were worn on the runway with chunky sweaters and classic boiled wool peacoats.
The jeans are made of 11-ounce Japanese stretch denim, according to a news release, and are both printed and hand-painted to add texture. In other words, don’t expect them to be cheap.
They will be available in specialty stores mid-July.
Elsewhere on the Proenza runway, the artsy theme continued with dark blue leather dresses that had a collagey look, cropped jackets worn over short skirts in a blurred jacquard check that was a new take on plaid.
Short silk faille dresses with bubble skirts also looked modern worn over silk turtleneck sweaters.
