Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen drew all the industry movers and shakers to the first runway show for the Row, their 3-year-old label that already sells at the world’s top stores.

What makes the line so successful is its luxe louche-ness. A denim blue python tunic dress cinched with a belt was a great piece, distinguished by a slight raised hem in the front. And of course, there was a great black boyfriend blazer worn with the sleeves pushed up, a style that the Olsens themselves played a huge part in popularizing.

I liked the idea of a white corset worn over a white chiffon T-shirt, with fluid white silk trousers and flat sandals. The perfect out-to-dinner outfit paired with an oversize clutch.

The Olsens were also onto something with the tie-front black trousers, worn with a black silk blouse buttoned all the way to the top. (I’ve started to see a few fashion types wearing their shirts buttoned that way.)

It was an impressive effort. And let’s not forget that the Olsens were doing the whole understatement thing long before Marc Jacobs and other designers jumped on the bandwagon this week.
