Milan Fashion Week: Max Mara's coat tales

Max mara milan fashion week
On the Max Mara runway, the military drumbeat was loud and clear -- cadet jackets worn belted over knee-length or ankle-sweeping skirts, lame dresses and knickers the color of brass buttons, skirts encrusted in gold embroidery. Enough already, we get it!
The more important takeaway was the return of the statement coat. Coats came slim-cut with military-styled patch pockets and epaulettes, full-cut with buttoned funnel necks, in camel hair, gray flannel and everything in between. They were all chic, sophisticated and utterly timeless.

The usually low-key show was also notable for its celebrity wattage. Actress Zoe Saldana, who will be honored with the Max Mara Face of the Future award at the Women in Film Crystal and Lucy Awards on June 1 in Los Angeles, was in the front row, dressed in a gold dress from the fall collection. And she looked terrific.

I love the trench coats. Max Mara's are always so perfectly tailored. They're stunning.
