Golden Globes: Red carpet misses

Ask any designer: Penelope Cruz was among the top three most wanted to dress for the red carpet tonight. But I have to say, I’m disappointed by her Giorgio Armani Prive gown, which makes her look much older than her years with three-quarter-length black lace sleeves and a black ribbon skirt. (There are so many dark green and black dresses on the red carpet--on Lea Michele, Amy Adams, Sigourney Weaver, Gabby Sidibe--you have to wonder if people went with black at the last minute, responding to the rain.) Anna Kendrick was also a miss, looking less like an ingenue and more like a swirl of frosting in her sparkly pearl gray, sequined and ruffled (the adjectives go on and on) Marchesa gown. Kate Hudson’s origami-folded Marchesa dress was no better. It wore her, instead of the other way around.
