In today’s Business section, Times staff writer Andrea Chang discusses Macy’s strategies to bring in more customers during this shopping season. One of the things the chain retailer is banking on: its trademark nostalgia.

But it isn’t all just about feeling good while watching ‘Miracle on 34th Street’; it’s also something steeped in tradition. Chang interviews West Hollywood resident Kathleen Kwiatkowsk, 56, who says ‘Macy’s is Christmas. My mother used to take me to the New York store when I was a little girl.’
