Seen on Screen: Tom Brady rocks the velvet blazer
Last week, one of my co-workers mentioned that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady seemed to have it all -- a beautiful model wife (Gisele Bundchen), a successful sports career and a great sense of style. He wondered aloud if the man who was named one of GQ magazine's "men of the year" for 2009 dressed himself or had a stylist help him out. He specifically mentioned a stylish velvet blazer he'd seen Brady wear during a "Monday Night Football" telecast on Nov. 30.
I haven't answered the stylist question yet (what with a new baby and all, I figured I'd give him some space), but I did manage to track down the provenance of the blazer in question. It's a made-to-measure, two-button, navy blue Ermenegildo Zegna jacket.
The folks at the Italian luxury brand (which is celebrating its centennial next year) tell me it's made from a lightweight velvet dubbed "Cashco," a cotton/cashmere blend exclusive to the label and retails for $2,295, and that Brady has most of his Zegna-tailored threads done through its Su Misura made-to-measure program because of his athletic build.
So there you have it. Dressing like Brady might not land you a lady like Gisele Bundchen -- but it certainly won't hurt your chances either.
