‘Sesame Street’ turns 40 with American Apparel T-shirts and totes

Aasesame_05 As the first generation of "Sesame Street" viewers veers toward middle age, it’s hard to believe that the show that introduced generations to Kermit the Frog, Bert and Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, Elmo and, of course, Big Bird, is turning the big 4-0 today (Nov.10).

Sesame's 40th season debuted on the tube this morning with a special appearance by First Lady Michelle Obama and Cameron Diaz, brought to you by the letter “H” and the number 40.

American Apparel, the L.A.-based manufacturer, has introduced a line of hipster T-shirts ($25) in colors such as a big-bird yellow plus kid's clothing and tote bags ($15) will hit shelves shortly to celebrate "Sesame's" birthday (all will be available in stores and online). The T-shirt graphics are based on original line drawings from each decade of the show acquired by licensee Mighty Fine from the "Sesame Street" archives.
