Space 15Twenty gets Generic Man shoe store, opens women's counterpart

June 8, 2009 |  9:38 am

Generic Man women's collection Space15Twenty Brandon Day and Kevin Carney, the men behind the 3-year-old Generic Man footwear collection, have turned their attention to the other side of the gender divide and on Sunday debuted a new women's collection at a temporary boutique in Space 15Twenty.

The line is based on classic men's footwear styles but rendered sleek and feminine, with looks that include gray suede and patent leather brogues ($330) and a brown leather tuxedo shoe lace-up with a folded stripe ($355). A sensible shoe called the Academy resembles the school uniform footwear of yesteryear, with a toecap and gum rubber sole ($295).

The boutique, which will be open for a month, will also carry the Generic Man fall/winter collection, featuring new styles such as chukka boots in two-tone leather and gum soles ($285) and a tassel-embellished lace-up ($360).

Also available is the affordable Generic Surplus collection (co-produced with Urban Outfitters), which showcases $58 canvas plimsolls, $72 suede wingtip sneaks and $79 moccasin-style suede high-tops.

1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Los Angeles. (323) 465-1893. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday. 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday. 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
