Tarina Tarantino goes over the rainbow with new 'Wizard of Oz'-themed jewelry
Just
as that pair of sparkly red ruby slippers called to Dorothy, there was a natural
attraction between local accessories designer Tarina Tarantino -- who's made a
name for herself with girly, colorful accessories for adults based on childhood
playthings such as Hello Kitty and Barbie -- and the world of Oz at Warner Bros. The two have teamed up for a "Wizard of Oz"-themed collection in honor of the film's 70th anniversary.
An expansion of the popular capsule collection she dabbled with last winter, Tarantino's "My Pretty" catalog follows the story of a hip, downtown Los Angeles Dorothy out for an adventure. It incorporates her new City Girl-Los Angeles line, which draws inspiration from downtown L.A.'s Olvera Street Day of the Dead celebration, Pasadena's roses, Old Hollywood glamour and the city's Latino culture.
Glinda the Good Witch-themed accessories come from Tarantino's Butterfly Bubbles collection, and the Scarecrow look draws from Tarantino's Victorian Navajo and Dollars and Sense collections. The winged monkeys get coutured with talon rings, a headdress and a sword necklace.
We've included two catalog photos, which Johnny Wujek styled and Albert Sanchez shot. And yes that is Debi Mazar as the Wicked Witch of the West in the picture at left (Kelly Osbourne played Glinda).
A few items will appear at the FIDM museum and gallery the first week of June to coincide with the institution’s "Ruby Slipper Collection" and "Inspirations of Oz" fine art exhibit. More products will hit boutiques in July and August. All catalog items will be in specialty stores, including the three Tarina Tarantino stores.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...A LOT of people make very beautiful jewelry that's up on Etsy. Give some other people a chance at free publicity besides Ms. Tarantino!

I agree with Eve. Tarina Tarantino's jewelry is overrated - and sorry it's just not at all original and is cheap looking. Please feature innovative artists that need and/or deserve the exposure. Did warner bros pay for this story placement?

It's interesting to look on etsy.com and find so called 'artists' that knock off "Ms. Tarantino". Get with the program, she is a talented individual and she created her business out of passion! I've been a fan of hers for 10 years!
