Maybe Wonder Woman would have gotten just as much mileage out of a brassiere as those magic, bullet-deflecting bracelets she’s been sporting for decades.

According to an item in the National Briefing section of today’s Los Angeles Times, a Detroit woman was spared serious injury when her underwire bra deflected a bullet.

The 57-year-old was apparently shot at after witnessing a break-in, according to police. Although the woman was injured, police credit the undergarment with slowing the bullet down and said the injuries were not life-threatening.

But isn’t it odd that an underwire bra can stand up to a chunk of hot lead traveling faster than the speed of sound but can’t survive 20 minutes in a clothes dryer?
