Michelle Obama chose Jimmy Choo’s green 'Glacier' pump for Inauguration Day ensemble

Shunning the traditional black, brown or beige pump, First Lady Michelle Obama wore Jimmy Choo’s “Glacier” kitten heel in a deep green to complement her cheerful yellow Isabel Toledo ensemble.

The pumps, which matched her olive green leather gloves, were purchased at Chicago boutique Ikram and are from the Jimmy Choo Autumn/Winter 2008 collection.

The unexpected green works well with yellow, which was a popular color on spring-collection runways.

Michelle's dress looks like Linda Purl puked on her.

Ms. Obama looks confidently beautiful today. I am confident she'll be stunning this evening.. Can't wait to see she's tressed with for the balls!

Spring?

Thanks, Michelle Smith -- your acquaintances will now know not to ask you for advice on fashion OR civilized conduct. What are you, twelve?

The First Lady looked chic, radiant and confident today, and I am so very glad to have her representing the women of America.

Who could see the shoes under that Christmas Tree of an outfit. Disappointing. She needs a new designer--and fast. She's a large woman who appeared to be a linebacker in that glitter-magnet, shapless coat with too many layers dangling under it, and she overpowered her husband. And HE is the one who was inaugurated. New designer, please. I hope she looks sensational tonight! Now tonight--she's SUPPOSED to overpower him!

She looked marvelous. The contrasting colors of dress and accessories was brilliant. Fabrics and style were perfect choices for her shape and the occasion.....A very classy First Lady....

I can see it now...

Jesus Christ returns to Earth and 64% of American's disapprove of his robe and unshaven appearance.

PULEEEEEAZZZE... GET A LIFE!!!

Michelle Obama was dressed absolutely inappropriate for todays events. I am all for modern and fashionable, this was awful. Please do not and I repeat do not compare her to Jackie Kennedy. Michelle is not even close to topping Jackie's grace and class. I hope I am not disappointed tonight by her evening gown. I am keeping my fingers crossed she gets this one right!

Michelle Obama exudes confidence. And the designer of her inaugural ensemble is VERY talented. I would have preferred the ensemble she wore on Sunday -- camel and black -- for the inauguration, and the Toledo dress on Sunday, which was a different sort of celebration. But I like that she isn't sure what she will wear until right before the event. Most women can identify with that!

I like MO InAug outfit. I dont get tho y she didnt weat a coat. She is gonna make herself sick.

Remember the quote ....

"He who controls the press, controls the people" ~
Joseph Goebbels (Hitler's propaganda minister)

When Sarah Palin spend some money on her outfits, the press relentlessly attacked her for being irresponsible during times of economic crisis.

However, when Michelle Obama wears a $1,200 Inauguration outfit and Jimmy Choo shoes, she is applauded. Someone please explain the difference?

Let the brainwashing begin! (Oh wait, it’s already well underway!)

I agree with jae. I LOVED the Sunday outfit and it would have been the better choice for Tuesday.

Michelle, Evening Dress was just ok'd, she needed more of an elegant Dress for eveing occasion. She look great early but evening attire was not the best for The 1st Lady. Her mother could have been better dress earlier on the knit hat & scarf was not to great she should have had a nice hat and scarf ,not the knit stuff. Michelle needs some real assistance with her clothes you can tell that she not use to this level of appearance in the public eye. Expert please come to assist.

I thought Mrs. Obama's inaugural outfit hit the mark! Her gloves and shoes were perfect w/her outfit! She has an eye for what looks good on her and has the self confidence to pull off fashion forward attire w/out letting the outfit overpower her. Hurray for her for choosing young, American designers. Oh, and for all you naysayers: I remember when we first saw Narcisco Rodriguez's first wedding gown....It was BEAUTIFUL and there were humbugs who thought it looked like a slip, because it didn't follow the poof rule.

Jackie Kennedy's father-in-law bankrolled her clothes and his son's presidency. Fine with me, but this is 2009. To most Americans, even J. Crew clothing is WAY out of reach. Mrs. Obama looked great....and her clothes didn't even have to be part of some family "ACT." God bless her, and way to go, our new First Lady. Don't let the critics get you down. They will eat you alive over nothing. I'd love to see you in jeans and a sweatshirt sometimes. I have mine on right now!

Jane, Jackie kennedy spent ridiculous amounts of money on her clothes. Plus, they are completely different body types. So you are right they should not be compared. But, Michelle Obama is in a class of her own. This is a new era and Michelle's outfits were beautiful and appropriate for the occasion. Michelle used an unknown designer that is only 26 years old-Jackie kennedy used Chanel.......I personally think Michelle has plenty of style and grace. And to top it off is as smart as her husband.........What more could we ask for of a First Lady?

The comment about the "Christmas tree of an outfit" is unfortunate - anyone who thought there was anything glittering in the outfit did not realize that there was absolutely NO glitter - the small white spots of the lining showed through the lacy outer layer and the effect was actually quite tasteful.

To Kathleen: The difference between what Sara Palin spent and what Michelle Obama spent is simple (beyond dollar amounts): The Obamas spend their own money while Palin was bankrolled by the RNC. Little was mentioned about what Cindy McCain spent (which was a fortune) because Cindy spent her own money.

Michele Obama- an abundance of glitz is for evening; the concert would have been a more appropriate venue for that outfit. The sheath was too tight under any conditions.
The ballgown was sweet, but not strong enough for Mrs. Obama or the occasion. She stands and walks like a jock, and could use some help in this area as well to showcase her outfits. Hillary got rid of her headband, so someone could work with Michele.

I think we can all see who voted for this president and who we can't by the comments about his wifes' clothing. Funny. Or maybe it's jealousy over-whelming you.

I don't normally read comments, but, for whatever reason, did read these. It saddens me that people can be so harsh and vindictive over something as (ultimately) unimportant as the First Lady's fashions. Yes, it is interesting to see what she wears. Yes, we do form our own opinions. But, come on, people, you don't have to use words like "puked" or "awful." I personally thought she looked lovely and appropriate. Randor, your comment about JC was absolutely on target. People just like to complain.

I agree about the linebacker thing. Put her in some cleats and shoulder pads.

Michelle looked beautiful, the color she chose complimented her coloring, and I applaud her for stepping out of the norm, after all the message is "time for change". I would have liked to see her in person, because I don't think the choice of accessories came across as well in print.

Look at how far we have come, not only with civil rights issues, but women's issues as well. For centuries fashion was often the of only outlet for a woman to express herself. In the 60's Jackie's voice was through fashion, but she open the door for future first ladies to be noticed, recognized, and find there voice for causes that have made a contribution to society.

Not since Jackie have we cared so much about what a first lady wore, what's the harm in that? Michelle is a wonderful role model, not only for her fashion sense but for her intellect.

She looked fantastic at the Inauguration, the gown for the ball could have been mor flattering.

Many people need to think outside the "petite frail white woman look" box. The current first lady is is 5'11" tall with an athletic build. She's not going to look like the "other" first ladies - get used to it - America has a new look in the Oval office!

Also, she's not trying to be another Jackie Kennedy - she has her own style and is not worried about stepping into someone's shoes

Kathleen, please dont compare Sarah Palin to Michelle Obama. I'll tell you the difference. One is the First Lady of the United States in the greatest country in the free world. She can wear whatever she wants. Regardless of the cost. Show some respect. Additionally, her dress and shoes werent bought by campain contributions.

the reason the outfit made her look hefty was due to wearing a bullet proof vest. if you notice her inaugural ball gown, she did look a bit smaller on top. its a sign of the times.

Obviously there are no fashionistas on this site, or someone would have pointed out her olive leather gloves and her green patent shoes DID NOT MATCH. There are full-length photos of Michelle walking in the parade, which clearly shows the color mismatch. And patent leather shoes with a "glittery" dress was just TOO MUCH. The reason there was a greenish cast to her dress in "some light" is obvious--the green patent leather shoes reflected back. Ivory white shoes & gloves would have been the smarter choice--OR, olive green gloves worn with shoes dyed to match, or shoes made lemon grass color as her dress....but two different shades of green and shiny shoes just looked tacky. While her outfit finally grew on me, her mismatched accessories made me cringe. Michelle, please get a stylist. You don't even have to spend the taxpayer's money for that--Nordstrom or any upscale department store will gladly do it for free :)

Michelle Obama looked beautiful in her inaugural clothing. What she wore was appropriate, fashionable and classy. It is a complement to compare Michelle's class and style to Jackie Kennedy's, but 1st Lady Obama's grace and beauty do not compare to anyone else. Our 1st lady wears her clothes very well and she don't need a $10,000 gown to look good. The 1st lady is a trendsetter and her style, class and grace outshines anyone else. She definately complement President Obama. They look radiant next to each other.

That's right BlackLove0607 - You tell it!

Ok, these people are killing me. UptownSeattle needs to read a fashion magazine once in a while. Matched, and particularly, dyed shoes, gloves, bags have been out of fashion for almost a decade. In the fashion world, that's referred to negatively as "matchy-matchy! Why is it that all the old (and not so old) biddies that complain about Michelle's fashion sense clearly know nothing about current fashion?!

UptownSeattle, you are so wrong - shoes & glove matching? Matchy, matchy isn't sharp it's old. Beside, it warmed up to maybe 30 degrees by the time of the parade, she knew she'd need gloves for warmth.

Here is what the REEEEAAAAALLLLLLLLL fashion critics said about Madame First Lady. You know the REAL fashion critics/stylist that get PAID to provide their opinions and advice!!!!

From the sound of things - the rest of the Fashion critics say Madam First Lady didn't miss the mark.

Stacy London, co-host of TLC's What Not To Wear

I think she can pull yellow off, but it's hard for American women to emulate. I think Michelle is separating herself from the pack with this outfit. It is a bold color choice few women can pull off. The wool lace is intricate and much busier than the sea of cashmere coats surrounding her. Instead of the traditional bold primary colors: red or blue, she chose a color specifically for her. The matching coat and dress is reminiscent of Jackie O's classic 60s style. I can't wait to see what she wears to the balls.

I think the matching coat and dress look will be copied. I think the color palette will be a hard sell going forward. Also, the texture of the lace work is very busy for the average American woman.

"Talk about a stimulus package! Michelle has given a huge boost to the American fashion industry. I'm so thrilled that she wore white because looking at historical photos of First Ladies on inauguration night -- the bright colored looks end up getting dated. White is timeless. I'm also so glad she showed her arms because they are her best feature."

Tommy Hilfiger

"I thought she looked elegant and beautiful. I think white was appropriate for the evening complementing Mr Obama's white tie and formal dress."

Lesley Seymour, editor-in-chief More magazine

"It's not my fave dress. A bit to froo-froo for her body. She's better in structured stuff--and a bit more modern. But what I like is that she's promoting American designers and we really need that."

John Bartlett, designer

"It was perfect-- very elegant but young. I love that she's choosing looks from the young guard of American designers (this gown by 26-year-old Jason Wu). She chose a path less-traveled. While it did remind me of a wedding cake, it also made me think of spring flowers, which is a nice symbolic choice - time for a fresh start."

Tara Kraft, group beauty & fashion director, Star magazine

"Barack must have been reminded of his wife on her wedding day- she really was breathtakingly beautiful. The dress was very on-trend. So many of the actresses at The Golden Globes recently wore flesh-toned or white dresses. I also love that she wore her hair down. So often first ladies wear their hair up in French twists or buns and that would have made her look like someone else."

These so called big wig designers can't stand the compition from Goldman, Toledo and Choo. It's easy to criticize competition when your status as one of the best is about to be blemished by newcomers. Your time has come. Let the new breed of designers in. The first lady did. What lousey sportsmanship in the designer fashion arena. Give these designers your blessing and move on.
The First Lady M. Obama looked great at both events.
