Local Macy’s slated for closure, clearance sale starts ‘within the next week’

Firing up my computer this morning, I noticed the top-searched term in my Google Trends gadget was ‘macy s store closings’ (maybe apostrophes aren’t Googleable but that’s beside the point).

It turns out the Cincinnati-based retailer plans to shutter 11 under-performing stores. I won’t go into the details, our compatriots over at the To Live and Buy in L.A. blog and the business section have already done a thorough job of it.

But there are two things worth noting if you’re too busy to click through: First, the 13-year-old downtown Los Angeles store at 920 7th St. (Ernst & Young Plaza) is among the casualties. Second, according to the press release issued by the company this morning, ‘final clearance at these stores will begin within the next week.’
