A few years back, while visiting the Levi Strauss & Co. headquarters in San Francisco, I had the pleasure of meeting company historian Lynn Downey, who gave me a fascinating tour of the archives. On Sunday at 2 p.m., she’s bringing some of the most storied pieces to L.A.’s Autry National Center of the American West for a program about the history of maverick entrepreneur Levi Strauss. Using vintage photographs, advertisements and artifacts, she’ll share the whole true blue story from the Gold Rush to today. And she’s bringing with her the oldest archived pair of Levis (see left).

After the talk, students from Cal State L.A.’s fashion design program will model their denim designs. The event is free with museum admission. For more information, click here.
