Lohan launches leggings line

Love it or hate it, leggings are still around. In fact, the trend has grown tremendously with several brands dedicated to creating only leggings. And it’s no longer just a stretchy pair of cotton pants to wear from yoga to the supermarket or when you’re feeling especially '80s. Recently, several lines have popped up making everything from tuxedo pant leggings to “denim jean” leggings that would make any hipster happy.

Members Only, the revived '80s "it" brand, is doing leggings modeled after a five-pocket jean. They   1blue_faux_five certainly create a clean silhouette, with no pesky pocket lining to bunch up at the upper thigh -- sure to be a hit as second skins for girls who are finding their stovepipe jeans too roomy.

1kenya_chicb From Members Only to leggings only, a brand called Costume Dept. is doing a Bea Arthur-does-Vegas (but oddly enough in a good way) collection of splashy leggings. These are not your basic layering pieces. Gold foil geometric prints, Japanese florals and zebra stripes canvas these pants, which become the statement maker of any outfit.

For a black tie affair, a company called DL Collection has slick black leggings with a shiny tux stripe running down the side.  They’ll look perfect with a tux front graphic T-shirt and a corsage of pink carnations.

And perhaps the strongest sign that the trend isn’t going away is Lindsay Lohan’s line of leggings called 6126 (after Marilyn Monroe’s birthday). Li-Lo apparently loves her leggings, though I always thought she had more of a fondness for Herve Leger bandage dresses when it came to skintight clothing and I’m confused as to what Marilyn Monroe’s birthday has to do with leggings?

Nonetheless, Lohan’s doing a personal appearance Monday at Nordstrom in the Grove to launch the line. Anyone who wants to meet the actress/leggings designer has to purchase a pair of her 6126 leggings to do so. A percentage of the evening’s sales will be given to ovarian cancer research.

I’ll be talking to Lohan during the event -- so tune in Dec. 9 for more details on her new role as designer and lover of leggings.
