In ‘The Royal Tenenbaums,’ Gwyneth Paltrow as Margot steps off a bus and time stands still. Her honey-blond bob -- as blunt as her humor -- is tucked to one side with a barrette. Beneath a Fendi fur coat, she wears a childish, striped Lacoste tennis dress and classic loafers. The Hermes Birkin bag (which costs about $10,000) winks at her wealth, and the punk raccoon eyeliner tips us off to the fact that this is a woman who most definitely does not wash her face before she goes to bed. She smokes and she mopes throughout the film. Her tone couldn’t be more blase. She’s Ramona the Pest, grown into a woman that’s a mash up of Anne Bancroft and Anna Wintour.

Right now, Lacoste has a few cute dresses that will invoke the spirit of Margot. The long sleeve sweater dress ($165) shown best on urbanoutfitters.com comes in black, red, grey and yellow and will look smart with tights and ballet flats or equestrian boots. Cigarettes, Birkin and wounded gaze not included.
