Crazy Shirt makes a comeback

November 18, 2008 |  4:00 pm

When I was 12, the only thing cooler than triple-lace L.A. Gear high tops were Crazy Shirts -- the Hawaiian T-shirt brand that uses graphics of hibiscus flowers or a gecko giving the hang-loose sign. Wearing a Crazy Shirt and L.A Gears together equaled instant popularity.

Not surprisingly, the company has made a comeback on the mainland, now that Hawaiian-born Barack Obama has been elected president. The company is making “Obama Surfs” shirts. Technically, the president-elect body surfs, but he catches waves nonetheless. The front of the shirt reads “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, President Obama 2009,” and retails for $25.   1obamasurfsback

Not since eighth grade have I thought about wearing a Crazy Shirt, but the bit of nostalgia mixed with current events has me intrigued. Those L.A. Gears are better left back in Junior High. Surf’s up.
