Fred Segal Beauty shuts its doors

October 8, 2008 |  2:31 pm

Fred Segal Beauty -- the swanky salon, spa and beauty supply store in Santa Monica -- is closing its doors after 16 years. WWD reports this morning that underlying its demise is a breach-of-contract lawsuit filed against Fred Segal and his son, Michael, by the business’ co-founders and licensees, Michael Baruch and Paul DéArmas:

"The suit alleges that Fred and Michael Segal rebuffed plans by Baruch and DéArmas to open a second space adjacent to the Fred Segal location on Melrose Avenue and to establish a branded product line, after initial assurances they could proceed."

An e-mail to the Fred Segal empire seeking comment has yet to be returned.

Such a shame to see the iconic salon and beauty outpost fall. I have to believe the ailing economy didn't make the decision much easier. Jeesh.

FYI- STUDIO at Fred Segal is STILL alive and well across the street- with the biggest selection of beauty, cosmetics and fragrance-so don't be confused.

these people ruined my hair, the owner was so rude to me and made me cry! i can not believe that this salon has not been taken over before now!
