What: A merino wool dress from J.Crew, above right, that will hug your hips like a baby koala bear. The frock has been marked down to $149.99 from $180 and comes in this vivid violet, black, charcoal and navy.
Why: The fitted bodice and pencil skirt scream, "I am Joan Holloway. Hear me purr." A boatneck collar -- which heightens your neck -- and elbow sleeves are classic 1960s accents. Even better, it grazes just above the knee and will mate perfectly with a pair of ballet slippers or killer pumps.
