When in Roma: Wear Superga
Our travel reporter Susan Spano blogged recently from Rome on the Daily Travel & Deal site about the must-have
Italian footwear in Italy. Not Gucci nor Fendi nor Missoni. It's Superga sneakers --originated in 1925 -- that you will find on the feet of chic hipsters.
Spano gives some background and the link to get a pair of your own.

I've always found these terribly uncomfortable for some reason.. I see the 'euro-kicks' appeal but they're not for every foot. . presently in my closet I have..NB, Adidas,Vans, Nikes, Nikes, and Nikes. I have 6 pairs of sneakers. That's gross..

I grew up in Rome in the 70's
and yes I wore Superga as a teenager
but cannot say it's hip anymore to wear Superga in Italy.
My Nephews wear Nike and my generation if they wear trainers at all wear Converse, Martin Margela or possibly Dior.
Nevertheless nostalgia has gotten the best of me and I will
get a pair first thing this morning.

I can't believe I'm reading about Superga sneakers! One of my favorite classic, simple white shoes, the brand has had some major ups and downs, including basically going bankrupt I thought, it couldn't sustain itself after the brief but major infusion of creativity from the intense Franco Bosisio of Swatch Italy fame. They had a beautiful store at Dadeland in Miami, and a similarly cool one in Paris and a few elsewhere. All these concepts failed, this was before Camper or Mandarina Duck fever btw. Anyway, thanks for the blast from the past...
