Standup comic Robert Schimmel, 60, dies after car crash
Standup comic Robert Schimmel, a frequent guest on Howard Stern's radio show, has died after suffering serious injuries in a car accident. He was 60.
Schimmel's spokesman, Howard Bragman, says Schimmel died Friday evening in a Phoenix hospital.
Schimmel was a passenger Thursday in a car driven by his 19-year-old daughter Aliyah. Bragman says Aliyah Schimmel swerved to avoid another car and the vehicle she was driving rolled to the side of the freeway. Bragman says she is hospitalized in stable condition.
Robert Schimmel lived in Scottsdale. The comedian has been a frequent guest on “Late Night with Conan O'Brien” and on Howard Stern's radio show. His 2008 memoir, “Cancer on $5 a Day,” chronicles his battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

This is not so funny.

This is such a terrible loss. Schimmel gave me and my wife so many good laughs over the years, and the way he handled his battle with cancer -- with both humility and good-natured humor -- was a true inspiration to anyone facing that kind of adversity. He'll always rank as one of my favorite comedians, right up there with Rodney, with whom I know he'll be slinging some great one-liners back and forth across the clouds. We'll miss ya, Bob.

I had the good fortune to work closely with Bob at Warner Bros Records and as well as being a truly brilliant comedian he was a great guy. His albums, especially his first one, are classics of the genre. Despite the tremendous adversity he faced, he was always very positive In later years I'd run into him and he was always super friendly and excited to talk about his latest project. I'm going to listen to his albums today and remember a man who made me laugh to the point of tears. RIP Bob, you won't be forgotten.

Had a chance meeting w/ Robert at a local dispensary abt 2 yrs ago. He was at the counter telling corny jokes and was very open abt his condition. He told me he was a comedian, but I didn't believe him until I saw him on a late night comedy show- he was much funnier. He was a very nice guy and left a huge tip to the 'tender. Hate to see a good guy go. RIP
Mr. Schimmel

One of the greats. He never watered down his act. Very blue but clever. RIP, and thank you for making me laugh.

Bob passing is a sad loss for the comedy world. And us. He can now swap stories and jokes with Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, George Carlin, and Lenny Bruce... on the last stage.

So sad. After fighting cancer, he dies in a car crash. Schimmel is one of the funniest comics I've ever seen or heard. I am usually not that big a fan of the "dark blue" comics, but Schimmel transcended that reservation. His best bits had me laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath. I will miss him, and treasure the laughs he left us all.

He was a very funny guy, and I like to think he would laugh at his death being overshadowed by Paul Conrad's passing. As Rodney D. used to say--"No respect, are you kidding me?" R.I.P.

You can say that again LDA... Ooops, you did.
