One year ago: Ed Reimers

Reimers Ed Reimers told television viewers for decades that they were in "good hands with Allstate."

Reimers, who died a year ago at age 96, also was a personality in early Los Angeles television, with KTTV Channel 11. But he is best known for his long-running role with the insurance company.

And Allstate "loved him," said his daughter, Kathryn R. Manning. "He was really part of their team, not just their spokesman. Whenever they had their conventions, he and my mother would be invited. Up to his death, he was getting a pension check from them."

Reimers' obituary appeared in The Times on Aug. 18, 2009.
