Ivy Bean, oldest known Twitter user, dies at 104

Ivy Bean, who became an online celebrity as the oldest known user of the micro-blogging site Twitter, has died. She was 104.

Bean died peacefully early Wednesday in Bradford in northern England, said Pat Wright, manager of the home where Bean lived.

Bean joined Twitter in 2008 and as of Wednesday had more than 59,000 followers. Her generally upbeat tweets included telling followers about her meals, the weather and her family. Bean's last tweet was July 6. It read, "going to have my lunch now will be back later."

Bean noted in an April tweet that she used the social media site Facebook before trying Twitter, which she found easier. Wright said Bean "grabbed new technology. She would try anything."
