Private service for Dodgers’ Willie Davis

Many fans of former Dodgers center fielder Willie Davis have contacted The Times asking if there will be a public memorial service for him. So far, no word of that, but Dodgers beat writer Dylan Hernandez reported Monday night that the team has scheduled a private service for Davis on Tuesday morning at Dodger Stadium.

Davis, 69, died March 9 at his home in Burbank of what authorities said were natural causes. A brilliant fielder and speedy base runner, Davis played for the Dodgers from 1960 to 1973, received three Gold Gloves and set a Dodgers record with a 31-game hitting streak in 1969.
