Tributes for Alex Chilton planned in Memphis

Chilton

When Alex Chilton, the lead singer for the Box Tops and Big Star, died suddenly on March 17, the surviving members of Big Star dedicated their appearance at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, to him.

Now a memorial service is planned for Tuesday in Memphis, with a tribute concert set for May 15 at the city's Levitt Shell in Overton Park. Chilton died in New Orleans, but he was from Memphis.
