Fess Parker, the actor who portrayed frontiersman Davy Crockett as envisioned by Walt Disney, died Thursday at his home near the winery he founded in the Santa Ynez Valley. He was 85.

Parker, who also played Daniel Boone on television, helped create the coonskin cap frenzy in the 1950s. OK, all of you baby boomers who owned a coonskin cap, raise your hand and sing along to the Davy Crockett theme song.
