Richard Todd as Robin Hood

Todd Richard Todd, who died Dec. 3, had a notable acting career, with an Academy Award nomination for 1949's "The Hasty Heart" and a memorable role in 1962's "The Longest Day" that mirrored his own experiences during World War II.

Reader Robert Illes pointed out one credit that didn't make the Associated Press account that appeared in The Times and other papers.

Todd was cast as Robin Hood in the 1952 Disney release "The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men." Iles noted in an e-mail that it's impossible to list all credits in an obituary, but "it's just a major childhood memory."

I believe Todd also had the lead in "When Knighthood Was in Flower," which I think was a Disney production.

Like reader Robert Illes, I always thought of Todd's portrayal of "Robin Hood" as one of his major roles---especially if you saw it as a kid like I did. In fact, I am going to see if the film is available on DVD. If it is, I will buy it and watch it again as my own personal tribute to Richard Todd.
