When Michael Jackson died unexpectedly in June, he left behind a multitude of unreleased recordings. On Monday the single ‘This Is It’ was made public, and Ann Powers, the Times’ pop music critic, gives her initial take here.

Mark Roesler, an Indianapolis-based lawyer and talent agent, is chairman of CMG Worldwide, a firm that specializes in marketing and licensing of the intellectual property of dead celebrities.
