Elaine Woo has been a Times staff writer or editor since 1983 who has covered a wide array of assignments, including Malibu mudslides, teachers’ strikes and skyscraper culture. In a previous incarnation, she was a feature writer for the old Los Angeles Herald-Examiner, where she specialized in personality profiles. During the last 10 years, she has managed to bury a few of those famous people, as well as many others less well-known but noteworthy, in obits for The Times.
