Bearded, heavyset man sought in bizarre attack in San Diego

AttackSan Diego police are searching for a heavyset man with a white beard suspected of a bizarre early morning attack at a gas station.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m., the man drove into a gas station in the Valencia Park neighborhood and asked for free gasoline, police said. The clerk refused. He then made a request for money from a woman who was waiting for her male companion to pump gas. She declined.

The man then asked the man pumping gas for money. When he refused, the man hit him repeatedly in the head with a crowbar before driving off, police said.

The victim, 25 years old, was taken to a local hospital with a serious head injury.

The attacker is described as a white male in his 50s wearing military camouflage pants, military boots and a green, white and orange jacket similar to a Miami Dolphins team jacket. He was driving a white Ford Ranger pickup truck with a camper shell and a decal reading STX.

Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego police at (619) 531-2000 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers (888) 580-8477.
